History

Due to the dedication of Robert “Bob” Sharp (Drummer) and Mervyn “Merv”  Fogg (Piper), support from the Redland Shire Council and sponsorship from the Redlands Returned Services League, the Shire saw the forming of its first pipe band (known as the Redlands R.S.L Pipe Band) in 1981.   (source: pipe band constitution).   The band soon became recognized for their effort in hosting some fun Ceilidh nights and magnificent Highland Debutante Balls, which ran for well over a decade.

Countless changes have occurred since the founding of the band, however there are major goals which have remained the same.   These include the endeavour to exercise the traditions of a pipe band and to encourage our youth to learn, as well as a strong local community involvement.

The band title eventually became known as the Redlands Pipe Band. After incorporation in 1993, the name was changed to the Redland Pipe Band Inc. (source: pipe band constitution). Following a sponsorship proposal from the Redlands Sporting Club its current title was introduced in 1999.   This, combined with the enthusiasm of playing members escalated the

band to yet another peak.

Throughout the mid 1990’s competition entries in the Grade Four division proved to be highly successful and in 2000/2001 the band achieved success through two wins for best dressed full band and drill.

Originally, the band tartan was made up of the blue hues of the Thomson. In 1997 it was replaced by the adoption of the Hunting MacGregor, which coincides with the band's MacGregor Crest Badge and its motto of “ My Race is Royal”.

Today, the band is officially known as the Redlands Highland Pipe Band Inc., T/A Redlands Sporting Club Pipe Band.   Proudly, two founder members Ian Williams and Ian Plaisted are still instrumental in ensuring a productive future for the band.
